2024 Tour

ArtsPeople’s Director Kathryn Hunyor curated an 8-day cultural tour of Japan focusing on contemporary art, architecture and design as part of the Art Gallery of NSW Society’s World Art Tours. Catering to the AGNSW Society’s well-travelled and well-informed membership, Kathryn updated and refreshed her tour to include some new and exciting artistic adventures.

About ‘More than Meets the Eye’

The ‘week-long public program’ included curated walking tours, gallery visits, themed lectures and special guests. The first week in Tokyo included ‘Japanese Design Reborn’ from Marunouchi to Ginza, ‘The Art of Living’ in Roppongi, ‘The City as Museum’ in Omotesando & Aoyama, and ‘Downtown Delights’ in Ueno & Yanaka. The second week immersed our visitors in Japanese and international contemporary art and architecture by Tadao Ando, Rei Naito, Ryue Nishizawa, Kazuo Sejima, Yukinori Yanagi, Lee Ufan, Yoshihiro Suda, James Turrell and many others, scattered across the Seto Inland Sea ‘art islands’ of Naoshima, Teshima & Inujima.
